The last FIEP Summit took place in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, on the 25th of October 2011, under the chairmanship of the Commander of the Moroccan Gendarmerie Royale, Lieutenant General Housni Benslimane.
The Commanders and Directors of the Member Gendarmerie Forces, or their representatives, attended the meeting, from which results stands out the admission of the Jordanian Darak Forces as full Member of FIEP, after one year as Observer.
The positive results achieved during the Moroccan Presidency were highlighted and subject of compliments. On the 25th of October, the FIEP Presidency was officially transferred to Portugal, under the chairmanship of the General Commander of the Guarda Nacional Republicana, Lieutenant General Luís Manuel dos Santos Newton Parreira, having also been agreed the main tasks to be carried out during the Portuguese Presidency, as well as the schedule of the next FIEP meeting and special seminar, to be held during 2012.
The work developed during the last years was emphasized during the Summit, namely the proposals made at meeting of the “Service Organization”, “Human Resources”, “New Technologies and Logistics” and “European Resources” Commissions, at the special seminar on “Gendarmeries and the Security Challenges of the 21st Century” and during the extraordinary technical meetings of computer experts and managers of human resources in respective Institutions.
It was recommended that FIEP Seminars be held on annual basis in December, instead of June, which moved the 2nd Special Seminar, under the topic “Gendarmerie and Security Governance”, from June 2011 to December 2011.
The successful achievement of FIEP new website (www.fiep.org), by the Netherlands and Morocco, was highly appreciated by all the countries as it will bring great benefits regarding the promotion of FIEP public interest and know-how of the police forces with military status.
Finally, the appreciation expressed towards the efforts carried out by the Carabineros of Chile concerning the census project of the police forces with military status all over the world, within a useful tool for an initial identification of any Institution applying for membership to FIEP.
The delegations expressed high compliments to the Moroccan Presidency and to the organization of the event, being unanimous in the appreciation towards the reception in Kingdom of Morocco.
